My Story Hello, my name is Joe Flood and I am a voice over artist. I haven't always been a voice over artist, but let us take a look back at all the things I have done and what has lead me to be where I am today. I was born and raised on a farm in the Panhandle of Texas where I started driving a tractor at the ripe old age of 8. When I wasn't in school, I would help my family with the various farming duties that needed to be done. While most kids were riding bikes or playing basketball, I was in the fields helping my family tend the farm. In high school, I was asked to try out for the school play because they needed a deep bass voice and needless to say, I got the part. I was a member of the Men's High School Chorale and Mixed High School Chorale. After my voice changed I had been told by people that I needed to find a way to use it. I started giving announcements at church along with leading singing and people would tell me they enjoyed hearing my voice. I was told that I had a very distinctive voice that is easy to listen to and understand. Once I graduated from high school and was ready to begin my college years, an unfortunate even occurred that caused any plans that I had to pursue a career with my voice to be put on hold. In the month of July that summer my dad passed away and since my mother was now alone, I felt like I needed to be home more and help her by taking over the operation of our farm. I continued going to college and became a part of the college chorale where I sang with the Amarillo Symphony and accompanied Jerome Hines. In 1974 Chamber Singers was established. This was a community choir that I was asked to join. While in Chamber Singers we sang in Australia at the World's Fair, we also sang in the Rotunda at the Texas State Capital for the Governor of Texas. It was during this time that I met my wife who I have been married to for over 30 years and have since then been blessed with 4 children and 9 grandchildren. I started farming full time while I was still in college, but my farming operation changed about 10 years ago into a cattle breeding operation where I am the owner and operator of about 75 Black Angus cattle. During this transition, I needed to add more income to our family, so I started driving an 18-wheel truck where I have traveled all over the United States. I began looking into a voice over career after my son in law heard a children's audio book that I had recorded for my grandchildren and commented on how good it sounded. I remembered back to all of the compliments I had received as a young adult and once I learned about all the various opportunities and avenues, such as voices for games, commercials, audio books, narrations, teaching tools, movie trailers, phone answering systems, and documentaries that voice over had to offer and I knew there had to be a place for me. I immediately enrolled in school and began learning how to improve my voice and speaking skills, so I could pursue my dream. What I would like from you is an opportunity to use my new skills in voice over. If you or someone you know has a project that needs voice over please keep me in mind. I consider myself to be a hardworking individual who has strong morals and a great love for my family. I hope to be able to make this my full time occupation, so I can show my children and grandchildren that through hard work and dedication, anyone can live their dreams.
